Description
A Tibetan thangka of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, one of the Shakyamuni triad of Mahayana Buddhism (together with Gautama Buddha and Manjushri). In this fine example of thangka art, He is depicted in a dynamic stance upon the back of a fair elephant, a mythical creature of the Buddhist heavens. A dhoti of powdery blue silk and sashes of pale gold float about the figure of Samantabhadra. His face is framed by fine black locks, the composure of which conveys serenity and profound introspection. The same is set off by a gold crown, each of whose five spires is studded with a brightly colored jewel. This Samantabhadra mantra thangka painting would be a signature addition to the home of any Buddhist devotee. A monotone backrest in deep, velvety blue, dotted with the ashtamangala. A background wherein the gradient transitions from an unusual silvery green to a dark, tempestuous blue.
