Description
Goddess Durga created seven Matrikas from her own self and battled against the demon Raktabija. Devi Varahi, one of them is the female counterpart of Varaha, the boar Avatar of Lord Vishnu. The Goddess who is the regent of the southern direction and protector of the age is sometimes described as the Goddess of darkness and the ideal time for worshipping her is after sunset and midnight. Some temples even make offerings of wine, fish, grain, and meat to the Goddess, which may not be entirely based on facts, because the beliefs of Hinduism usually advocate the use of vegetarian offerings. Although Goddess Varahi rides a buffalo yet here she is depicted seated on the three - fuming lions -faced heightened asana, wielding the weapons-a discus, shield and goad, pash( loop), a small bludgeon ( Gada ), conch & hammer, Mother showering her blessings on devotees with one hand and delivering compassion with her other hand. Goddess is bejeweled with attractive bracelets on all her hands and lovely anklets on her feet. The neckline and vakshsthal are stunning with a variety of astonishing jewelry & splendid garlands.
