POISON is an American band in the hard rock & glam metal music genre formed in 1983 in Mechanicsburg (Pennsylvania). The co-founder lead singer and rhythm guitarist (+ harmonica) Bret Michaels began his performing career with a basement band called 'Laser' and then, in 1979, joined childhood friend and drummer Ricki Rockett to form a band called 'The Spectres'. In 1980, Michaels & Rockett teamed up with lead guitarist Matt Smith & bass / piano player Bobby Dall to form the band 'Paris', making a strong local following in Pennsylvania but saw little opportunity of success there. Then they decided to move to Los Angeles and in March 1983, 'Paris' changed their name to 'Poison'.

They got their first major break when they secured a regular gig at famous Hollywood rock club 'The Troubadour', but guitarist Matt Smith quit and returned to Pennsylvania. To replace him, the band auditioned 3 possible candidates, one of whom was future Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. The winner however, was the New York-born CC DeVille, with its expressive lead guitar style.

POISON has remained one of the music industry’s top acts and commercial success of the mid-1980s / mid-1990s, with multi-platinum album sales and sold out tours. They have sold over 65 million records & DVDs worldwide, and charted 12 Top10 hits. Since their debut in 1986 released 4 live albums, 5 compilation albums, issued 28 singles to radio and 7 Studio albums : Look What the Cat Dragged In (1986) ; Open Up and Say... Ahh ! (1988) ; Flesh & Blood (1990) ; Native Tongue (1993) ; Crack a Smile... and More ! (2000) ; Hollyweird (2002) and Poison'd ! (2007).
