VPN is an internet proxy or Virtual Private Network. What it does is allows you to surf the internet securely with your real IP address rather than the one assigned to you by your internet service provider. Most VPNs come with a dedicated server or a gateway which connects to your ISP and passes through the traffic through to you. When surfing the internet, you usually do not have control over where this traffic goes. This is how the problem of internet censorship happens. A VPN server acts as an intermediary between you and your ISP, it redirects all your traffic from your ISP to your website without them ever knowing about it.
