Cognitive dissonance and
gaslighting is the doublethink in 1984

If there is no word for freedom,
no one will be able to demand it."

Prison of thought
– The inability to find one's own words
shows that the inner space for free thought has been atrophied –
often through fear, surveillance, or persistent indoctrination.

Self-censorship
– Not being allowed to answer means not only external oppression,
but often also internalized control:
One no longer even dares to
disagree internally.

Doublethink
– The simultaneous existence
of contradictory beliefs,
because one has learned to follow them,
even if they contradict one's own feelings.
